O’Neill Electro was the first business in our group established in 1986 by Russell O’Neill, a qualified mechanical and electronic engineer. The focus of this business is mechanical and electronic repairs to specialised electronically controlled machinery within the clothing and textile trades in South Africa. We soon became the go to company as our specialised service provided companies with huge savings due to us being the first company with the ability to repair these highly specialised electronic control systems.
Through innovation, the company moved into the design, manufacture and supply of specialised control machinery used in the garment and underwear trades. The company then began to supply new and refurbished specialised electronic control machinery and spare parts to the trades that now included the embroidery and mattress manufacturing industries. As an example, we set up a complete mattress and bed manufacturing plant for a client in Gauteng. We supplied all the manufacturing machinery required including quilting machines, embroidery machines, sewing machines and tape edge machines. We manufactured and supplied the specialised tables required and we supplied and installed all the air systems. A key advantage to our businesses is our team of highly trained staff that service and maintain all the equipment we supply.
Through O’Neill Electro we built up stock of specialised machinery which then led to the start of Emerald Clothing, now known as Emerald Embroidery, the second business in our group. Emerald was initially a CMT company that focused on the manufacture of garments for the clothing trade. Emerald evolved over time and through the acquisition of high tech quilting and embroidery machinery this business now specialises in quilting and embroidery to the garment and mattress manufacturing trades.
The third company in our group, Apparel Technologies, supplies, installs, commissions and services highly specialised machinery and spare parts to the printing, clothing and quilting trades. We specialise in supplying automated cutting solutions and direct to garment and fabric printing machinery. This business specialises in providing, from a single machine to a complete turnkey solution.
As an evolution to these businesses, we then looked at the mattress manufacturing trade and the quality of products being supplied to end users. We believed the time was right to start manufacturing high quality mattresses and bed sets, products that are manufactured to the highest quality standards and are manufactured to last, and so Viking Beds was born.
At Viking Beds we have combined our many years of extensive industry experience and knowledge coupled with our own high tech machinery, the latest technology in manufacturing and high quality materials to manufacture, what we believe are superior high quality mattresses and bed set products for our customers.
